What is MID Certification?

Measuring Instruments Regulation (MID)  2014/32/EU

It includes the requirements that the manufacturers must fulfill in the process from the production of measuring instruments to putting them on the market and putting them into use.

The Directive contains guidelines for the health and safety of people operating or working close to measuring instruments.

What awaits the manufacturer under MID?

Measuring Instrument manufacturers must first decide in which module their product will be evaluated for conformity. Modules are Conformity Assessment Procedures and are given in the annexes of the MID directive. MID has offered multiple module options for Conformity Assessment.

Secondly, the manufacturer must choose which body to apply for conformity assessment. The Conformity Assessment must be carried out by the Notified Body.

Products within the scope of MID must bear the CE mark.

Products within the scope of the new approach directives must bear the CE Mark and Metrological mark.

What is a Notified Body?

Notified Body is the bodies approved by the Member States for their technical competence, independence, impartiality and reliability required for carrying out Conformity Assessment Procedures under the MID directive.

What experiments are required under MID?

In order to prove the compliance of the measuring instruments with the MID requirements, tests valid in OIML or European standards are carried out.

Type Approval (Module B)

*Type approval means the procedure applied for the evaluation and approval of the construction, material quality, and technical characteristics of all significant elements of a statutory measuring instrument that may affect the measuring function or capabilities.

To ensure the stability of the meter and to protect the rights of both transacting parties, a legal meter that tends to shift over time must be type-approved before passing through verification.

Which modules can be purchased other than Type approval (Module B) so that CE and Metrological marking can be added to the product?

Module D: Manufacturing Quality Assurance Covers the production phase and follows Module B. It includes the process of being tested and approved by a notified body. The process it follows is similar to ISO 9000’s scope of production, plant and after-sales service (former ISO 9002). It envisages the establishment of a quality assurance system for the production process. Final product inspection and tests are carried out by the manufacturer.

Module F: Product Verification This module, which is only for the production phase, is usually used together with Module B. CE marking is attached to the product with the written certificate of conformity within the framework of the module in which an approved institution checks the conformity of the product to the technical documents or the definitions in the type examination.

Module H: Full Quality Assurance The existence of a quality management system [scope of design + development + production + plant + after-sales service of ISO 9000 (TS EN ISO 9001)] by an institution approved for the implementation of this module, which is related to both design and production phases. is inspected.

In cases where the design is not fully compatible with the harmonized standards; It is examined whether the design complies with the provisions of the regulation.
